Overview

About HGH Fragment 176-191

This is residues 176 to 191 of human growth hormone, unmodified. The fragment retains the lipolytic activity of the parent hormone while lacking its growth-promoting and insulin-antagonising activity, which is the observation that made the C-terminal region interesting in the first place.

It is held alongside AOD-9604, which is the same region with an added N-terminal tyrosine. Comparing the two is how the effect of that modification is assessed, and it also guards against the frequent confusion between them in secondary sources — the two are routinely quoted under each other's names.

In short

  • Unmodified hGH(176-191) with free termini
  • Distinct from AOD-9604, which carries an added N-terminal tyrosine
  • Retains lipolytic activity without growth-promoting activity
  • Released at ≥ 98.0% area-percent by RP-HPLC

Where it is used

Research applications

Lipolysis

Used in adipocyte preparations to study fat mobilisation independent of the somatotropic effects of full-length hGH.

Functional dissection of hGH

Demonstrates that distinct activities of the hormone map onto distinct regions of the sequence.

Analogue comparison

Held against AOD-9604 to assess what the tyrosine modification changes.

Handling

Reconstitution and stability

Reconstitution

Reconstitute with sterile or bacteriostatic water added slowly against the inner wall of the vial. Allow the cake to dissolve without agitation, swirling gently if required. Do not vortex or shake.

Stability

Lyophilised at −20 °C, desiccated and protected from light, stable for at least 24 months. Reconstituted and held at 2–8 °C, use within 28 days. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw.

Notes

  • Bring the vial to room temperature before opening so atmospheric moisture does not condense onto cold powder.
  • Record the reconstitution date on the vial; concentration drift between runs is usually evaporation, not synthesis variance.
  • Aliquot at first reconstitution where the working programme needs more than a few withdrawals.

Figures are mass-to-volume arithmetic for laboratory preparation of HGH Fragment 176-191 and take no account of net peptide content, which is stated on the batch certificate and should be applied to the fill weight before calculating. Nothing here constitutes dosing, administration or clinical guidance of any kind.

Published work

What the literature reports

Summaries of published findings, provided as research reference. These describe work done by others in preclinical and clinical settings; they are not claims about this material or outcomes for any reader.

  1. Fragment lipolytic activity

Demonstration that the C-terminal region of hGH carries lipolytic activity separable from growth promotion.

    Ng & Bornstein, Diabetes, 1978

  2. Structure–function mapping

Work assigning distinct hGH activities to distinct sequence regions.

Questions

HGH Fragment 176-191 — asked and answered

Something not covered here? Ask us directly — technical questions reach someone who runs the assays.

Is this the same as AOD-9604?
No. AOD-9604 is 177-191 with an added N-terminal tyrosine. This is 176-191 unmodified. Different masses, different retention times, frequently confused in secondary sources.
Does it contain cysteine?
Yes, and the fragment can form disulfide-linked dimer on ageing. This is reported on the certificate where detected.
What is the solution shelf life?
28 days at 2–8 °C, though dimer formation is the limiting factor rather than hydrolysis.
